Brown: We’re In This Together

It was meant to be a final twelve games of the season that Southend went into with us celebrating automatic League 2 promotion.

That’s still possible but the play offs are our best bet of going up now.

Making the play offs is starting to look a tall order though after the run that we’ve had, which coupled with the surges up the League 2 table from other teams sees us clinging onto the seventh and final play off spot at the moment.

Phil Brown has called upon the supporter’s, in his interview on the official website, to continue to play a big part in the season run in and knows that being negative isn’t going to help anyone and wants everyone to pull together to make sure the season doesn’t end in disappointment.

‘It’s all about Southend United fans coming together, with everyone else connected with the club, as a group, to support the boys that cross the white line on a matchday.

‘That’s the most important thing. It’s no use being negative and giving the players, who are trying desperately to achieve what we set out to achieve, stick.

‘The players are absolutely committed to the cause – I’d be worried and realise it if they weren’t, but they are, and they are committed to playing for Southend United.

‘I hope the supporters can see that this run is not because of a lack of effort from the players.

‘They need the support of the guy on the terrace every weekend to help them turn this form around as quickly as possible.’

When things are going well the plaudits come thick and fast, they arguably come thicker when it’s not so good like it is for us at the moment but Brown went on to stress that the players are trying as hard now, on the pitch and in training, as they have been all season.

He too knows this is the case for all concerned but wants one final push with all ‘sticking together’ to see us over the line.

Need to get back on a winning run quickly don’t we or it’s going to slip away. Be a shame for that to happen now after the efforts so far.
