Kevan Hurst has talked up the game this weekend against Morecambe by saying that he feels both sides will have a point to prove on the day given recent form and results, so it’ll be a tough encounter, but he’s confident we can come out with a smile on our faces again.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the game, the midfielder said a boost for us is the showing we put in at the Globe Arena in our game back in the earlier rounds of the FA Cup where we won three nil.

‘They’ve been on a poor run of form, but I know Jim Bentley and he’ll make sure they are working as hard as ever, there’s no doubt it’s going to be a tough game. We can’t think anything other than that – and we won’t – but we’re confident of getting back to winning ways. Another performance similar to the one in the FA Cup would be great, particularly if we can get another early goal.’

Hurst says the early goal is crucial because we need to start getting some momentum in games again now, and when we get our noses in front, keep ourselves there and then look to add the killer goals to make life easier for us as we see out games.

The focus is still on trying to snare automatic promotion because it remains doable and mathematically possible, and that’s what Hurst wants us to aim for, but that will of course only happen if we rediscover our form and start winning games again.

Taking the lead hasn’t been the problem recently when you look at the matches against Exeter and Wycombe, but the second goal is the main problem, as is keeping a clean sheet but there’s every confidence to be had because apparently our stats say we have never dropped a point this season from a position of a two goal lead, and that’s exactly what we need to get ourselves back to.

Fingers crossed!
