Goalkeeper Dan Bentley has said that following three draws in our last four league games, Southend need to take the league season by both hands again now and really kick ourselves on in our hopes for promotion.

Speaking to the Official Site with his ‘kick on’ call to arms, Bentley was quick to point out though that nobody should be viewing those three draws as anything but good points gained, but the focus now is to put the good draws behind us and great a few more great wins – starting with Mansfield Town this weekend.

‘I don’t think we can say that the draws were bad results at all, we were disappointed not to win the Newport game. But they set up to disrupt us and on a difficult pitch it worked. At least we came away with a clean sheet and a point.’

Bentley goes on to say against Plymouth we came up against a good in form side who took the lead, but we still took a point out of the match, and again Dagenham we did have winning chances against one of the teams with a great home record this season, so there are plenty of positives from this run, but this run now needs topping off with a victory.

‘Now’s the time for us to kick on. We know it’ll be a tough game but we have done well away from home this season, so we’ll be confident.’

We have even more reason for confidence as Mansfield’s home form as Dan points out hasn’t been the best, so we will be looking to take advantage and pick up a maximum return.

Of course given where he plays, Bentley is also on a personal level looking to pick up his 13th clean sheet of this season.
