If League 2 wasn’t taking Southend seriously before the Chesterfield game they will be now after we not only beat our promotion rivals, we well and truly beat them three-nil on Saturday with Barry Corr among the goalscorers again.
Corr scored his second goal in as many Roots Hall games, and being in front of his on looking children pleased him all the more.
The atmosphere from 6,000 fans was brilliant in the big promotion game, with Corr paying tribute to this in his interview on the official website, and also highlighting the fact that this result sends out a clear message to the rest of this teams in League 2 that we really mean business.
Chesterfield did come back into the game in the final quarter of it but the damage was done and a saved penalty gave us a cleansheet, which is always impressive along with the link up from the attacking players we’re now seeing.
The last thing we now want to do though is get this great win and then let it go to waste in our next League 2 game, which will come after the big FA Cup fourth round game with Hull City at the weekend.
We’ll go into this with plenty of confidence and can play with the freedom to relax as the pressure is all on the Premier League side, but whatever the outcome of that game we’ve made it clear we mean business in League 2 this season, if there was any doubt about this before Saturday.

Following on from Millwall, it really is a statement isn’t it. If it was a standalone people would put it down to one of those days, but we’re unbeaten in a few and whilst wins haven’t been back to back, we’ve kept picking up points nontheless. There is a consistency to it and we keep creeping higher without too much shouting.
I don’t want us getting too much praise and attention from others, even if we deserve it, just going under the radar will do me.
A win against Hull would certainly give us that though wouldn’t it lol
