Injury Blow For Impressive New Boy

Southend are looking like being jinxed in the right-back area. First we lost regular, and captain John White, and then less than a half into his debut we went and lost Luke O’Neill who was having an impressive debut for us having joined on loan before the Chesterfield game.

Not only was O’Neill doing well defensively he also played a key role in the opening goal as it was a ‘worldy’ of a cross field pass that picked out Anthony Straker who then set up Kevan Hurst to score against his former side.

O’Neill had to limp away from the game before half time though with Phil Brown now left hoping the setback isn’t too serious with him admitting in his interview on the official website that he did come to the club with a slight problem but as he’d trained with no reaction he didn’t think it would be a problem.

All being well some ‘magic work’ from Ben Clarkson in the physio department can do the trick.

It wasn’t all bad though as Adam Thompson came on to slot in at right-back and his contribution was equally as good, he played a part in the third goal with Brown saying that he’s ‘put a marker down’ in his attempts to get back into the side, be that in place of O’Neill if needed or in a central area.
