Manager Phil Brown has said he couldn’t be more delighted for the players after watching them dump Millwall out of the FA Cup today.

Southend came out as four one winners thanks to goals from Barry Corr, Will Atkinson, Michael Timlin and Ryan Leonard, and it was a very comprehensive and quite comfortable victory in the end.

Speaking to the Official Site following the game, the gaffer explained.

‘I’m delighted for the players more than anyone else because it was an excellent performance. They played terrifically against Championship opposition and fully deserved to win the game and progress in the cup.’

Brown goes on to say that it’s fantastic for the club and is again another great confidence boost for the players which should stand us in good stead as the league campaign continues and now of course we face the opportunity of bagging a big tie in the fourth round of the competition and not just the buzz that can bring because of the game but also the financial awards.

As for the game itself though he says it was obvious Millwall weren’t at it because of how nervous they were on the ball, and he thought we were very professional and clinical when it came to taking advantage of that, and then when they were reduced to ten men we had even more control and the players just lapped up the confidence as the game went on.

He finishes by praising those players who came in to the team with a point to prove, and he credits them for doing just that, as for the entire squad he doesn’t believe he could’ve asked anything more from them over the course of 90 minutes.

We punished the nervousness that Millwall showed and it’s a scalp that Brown should rightly be pleased with. Hull’s next?
