It’s time! A few weeks ago Southend had the chance to secure a place in League 1 as automatic promotion was in our own hands but Morecambe gate crashed that party with a three one win at The Globe Arena.

We’ve seen off Stevenage Borough and Wycombe Wanderers beat Plymouth Argyle to, you’d have to say rightly so, make this a fitting play off final. There can be only one winner at Wembley on Saturday, even if it takes extra time and penalties one of us will become a League 1 club tonight and the other has to try again next season.

Phil Brown’s been able to, more or less, select a consist squad for most of the season and he’ll finish it in the same manor as Adam Thompson’s long term injury is the only one that will keep him out, he’ll not be fit until a month or two into next season at whatever level.

Wycombe’s main doubt surrounding goalkeeper Matt Ingram, he missed the semi final win over Plymouth due to injury with Alex Lynch filling in. Steven Craig did miss the second leg win but isn’t expected to miss this final.

If we’re to achieve a place in League 1 we’ve got to do something we’ve not managed over the two meeting this season, win! Technically a draw and penalty shootout win would be enough. Wycombe beat us four one at Adams Park with then coming back to hold us to a two two draw at Roots Hall and Wycombe are also unbeaten in the last four meetings.

Whoever wins, we’ll want it to be us, it’ll be a first as we’ve both previous only won play off finals, we beat Lincoln in 2005 to go up with Wycombe beating Preston in 1994 to achieve that too!
