The Preview: Southend v Portsmouth

The hangovers will be in full force, I’m sure that mine will be anyway, as I switch the over indulgence of food for the excessive intake of intoxicating beverages this evening. There’ll be little time to nurse this hangover though as Southend are back in action on New Year’s Day as Portsmouth are hosted.

A fourth game in thirteen days is made easier with Brown not short of options, the likes of Corr, Eastwood, Laid and Clifford, who once played for Portsmouth briefly, are hoping for involvement from the off. Bennett is the only one that he’s still without.

Portsmouth could be without East after he was injured in the last game. They’ll already be without Ferry, Cooper, Barcham Craddock due to various injuries so N’Gala could be one that does come in after he replaced East in their draw with Northampton.

I wouldn’t have expected Portsmouth to be in the position that they are now but they must be there for a reason, like we’re challenging for promotion, as it’s deserved. The form would say that we’ll win but we thought that before the Torquay game and that was lost, with home advantage though anything other than a point would be a disappointment and not the way we’d want to start the New Year.

Brown was unhappy with the draw against Accrington, I’d dread to think what he’d make of it if we didn’t get a positive result in this one.
