The Preview: Southend v Millwall

It’s a chance for the shackles to come off on Saturday as Southend take a break from the League 2 promotion push and should be able to play with freedom, and something of expectancy reduced, when the FA Cup takes over and Millwall are hosted in round 3.

The games keep come for Southend but if the results keep coming that’ll keep the adrenalin flowing and help get us through. Brown not having any fresh injury concerns, apart from Bennett who’s likely to miss most of the season, will also help. Corr came off the bench to help us beat Portsmouth and that might earn him a start.

Millwall remain without a manager after Lomas was sacked on Boxing Day so former Southend striker Harris, who left us to return to Millwall in a coaching role late season, will continue to look after the first team and injuries could see Millwall missing Robinson and Trotter again.

Ordinarily Millwall would be considered the favourites, and due to their Championship status they still will be, but their form isn’t encouraging and we’ve not suffered that many defeats in recent weeks so with the momentum and the game being played at Roots Hall I think Southend have a good chance to make it into round 4 of the FA Cup.

If we manage this we’ll be one win away from matching our best ever achievement in the FA Cup of making round 5, the only problem is we’ve not even managed a goal in any of our last three meeting with Millwall, which isn’t something I knew until I read in. Now you do too, if you didn’t already.
