Ahead of the game against Fleetwood Town at the weekend, manager Phil Brown managed to get a loan deal for Joe Pigott over the line.

The 21 year old was with us in our successful Play Off promotion run to Wembley and then League One and Brown had made no secret over the summer about hoping to see a return for the player who made 23 appearances for us last term, scoring seven times.

One of those goals was in the shoot out and the 120th minute leveller in the final.

He comes in again from Charlton Athletic on a six month loan spell, but with a view to a permanent deal when it expires on January 2.

The transfer has already been agreed, it’s simply down to us to enact it.

He was handed the No 23 shirt on his return, and made his second debut for the club in the game against Fleetwood as a late second half substitute.

Announcing his return, Southend took the opportunity to bring back a few nice memories.
