Southend United announced two new deals for Graham Coughlan and Ben Coker ahead of the match against Fleetwood at the weekend.

Beginning with Coughlan, he joined as a player back in 2010 before becoming player/assistant manager. Having hung up his boots in 2013, he made the step to assistant manager outright, but following the arrival of Dave Penney he stepped down to first team coach.

With Penney departing this summer, he has now penned a new three year deal and returned to being Phil Brown’s right hand man.

Speaking to the Official Site having signed the deal, Coughlan explained.

‘I’m pleased to be staying with Southend for the long-term future. I’ve enjoyed my time immensely, and get on well with the staff, players and the supporters. We want to improve and progress in the future and I’m thrilled to be a part of it here.’

Left back Ben Coker also penned a new three year deal at Roots Hall, with a further year’s option already in place.

Having come in on a trial back in the summer of 2013 and impressing enough to be offered a deal, he has been a regular since and he said in his own interview that he was obviously delighted to have extended his time with us following last year’s promotion.

‘I’m really pleased to have got tied down at Southend. I’ve had a great time here ever since I first came on trial and I’m thrilled to be able to stay at the Club. I feel like my game has improved massively since I joined the Club. We had a great season last year and I’m sure this campaign and in the future we’ll earn more success.’
