With only one new face for Southend since the end of last season, Steve Tilson is playing the waiting game with the hope that out of the seven players he has contacted, at least some will come back with good news.

Steve Collis is the only new signing for the Shrimpers, signing a two-year deal which will see him compete with Darryl Flahavan for the number one shirt.

Speaking with the Official Southend United Website, Steve Tilson said:-
‘We’ve made offers to some potential new signings but we are waiting for them to come back to us. There’s only so many times you can keep phoning those players and their representatives to see if they have made a decision yet. It can be trying but you have just got to sit back and wait for them to come back to you with some sort of answer.’

Out of the woodwork though, three exisiting Southend United players have put pen to paper and all signed new two-year deals. Kevin Maher, Lee Bradbury and Lewis Hunt have signed on to help Southend fight on into the Championship next season.

Maher’s contract includes a testimonial match at the end of the 2007/08 season when he would have served a proud twn years with Southend.
