Corr Had To Come Off

Losing Barry Corr at half time in the nil-nil draw against Newport County on Friday night wasn’t something that helped Southend’s chances of victory in that game, it couldn’t be avoided though and had to happen.

Phil Brown knows that once a player is showing signs of ‘double vision’ you have to take them off and said so in his interview with the Echo.

Corr suffered a blow to the head and when the players came in for the half time talk Brown knew he had to remove the striker, his original plan was to take Lee Barnard off at the break but those thoughts had to be revised.

If we could have kept Corr on perhaps we might have gone on and win, but by the same token you have to say that if Newport hadn’t missed their penalty they might have won themselves so it’s six of one and half a dozen of the others. Corr’s well being took priority, as it rightly should.

Get yourself right soon Corr, but don’t rush it.

A positive from Barnard staying on though was that he ended up playing an hour, which with a lack of football for him this season would have done him good, which Brown also mentioned.
