Southend’s date with destiny moves closer by the day with John White set to lead us out at Wembley against Wycombe on Saturday in the League 2 play-off final with us potentially 90-minutes from promotion, making up for the disappointment of missing out on automatic promotion on the final day of the regulation season.

White, and his teammates, enjoyed the celebrations with the fans at Roots Hall following our second leg win to see off Stevenage three-one on the night, four-two on aggregate, with him telling the Official Website that it was a ‘nice occasion’ with the fans ‘a credit to the Club.’
He’s also highlighted the role that they can play in the play-off final too.
‘The support from the fans has been amazing. It’s not something I’ve been too used to and we urge them to give one more push to get behind us and hopefully help us over the line at Wembley.’
It’s a near certainty that White will play on Saturday, and captain the side too, with him looking forward to seeing his Wembley dream come true.
‘It’ll be a dream come true and will be the first time I will have played at Wembley – if selected.
‘If someone had said I’d be doing that when I started out in football then I wouldn’t have believed them. I’m really excited at the prospect and I want to do a good job for all the boys.’
As for Wycombe our captain knows that we’ll be faced with a really difficult game as, like us, they’ll be disappointed that they missed out on automatic promotion having been there or thereabouts all season. He also knows that ‘on our day’ we can beat anyone though.
‘We’ve played well recently and have been strong. Going into it, we thought we’d be playing Wycombe but we ended up playing Stevenage, which we thought was another winnable game.
‘Wycombe will be a tough game. They’ve got good players and have been up there all season.
‘We can beat anyone on our day and hopefully we can come back with the glory.’
