John White’s Southend future has been secured with it announced on the Official Website the defender had signed a new contract.

Blues captain White, previously of Colchester, has extended his contract with a new two-year deal confirmed that’ll see him lead us for a little longer yet.

Upon signing this contract he said.

‘I’m really pleased to have agreed a new deal with the Club.

‘It’s been great here since I came and the last two years have been successful with the play-off finish and then promotion at Wembley last season.’

I think it’s fair to say that White, who signed on a free transfer in 2013 having initially been on loan at Roots Hall, hasn’t had a bad spell at the club so far had he?

He’s certainly impressed in this time, with him currently one match away from playing 100 for the club, that’ll come in the League 1 curtain raiser against Fleetwood in a little over a week.

White’s enjoyed his two-years with the club, praising the fans for the backing they’ve given him and as he’s settled with his family and loves the club, captaining it, he didn’t want to go anywhere else.

More success is also being targeted, he added.

‘The fans have always been good to me, my family and I are settled in the area and I love playing and captaining the Club.

‘Hopefully there can be more success over the next couple of years too!’
