Southend’s League 1 season continued with a win against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Tuesday.

The winless start to the season ended with Southend recording an emphatic three-nil win at Sheffield United, who were actually the last side we beat with the Blue beating them last season in March.

Southend got off to a great start when O’Neill’s cross was sliced into his own net by O’Connell with just five-minutes played.

Two-goals in as many minutes from McLaughlin, who continues his goalscoring run, and Cox had Southend three-up with only 15-minutes played with that enough to secure the Blues the points.

Here’s a round up of the League 1 action from the other matches played, with some still to take place.

To be played

Wed 17 Aug 2016 – League One
Bristol Rovers v Bolton 19:45
Fleetwood v Oxford Utd 19:45

AFC Wimbledon continue that wait for a first League 1 win, beating by Scunthorpe this time whereas Champions of League 2 last season Northampton remain unbeaten after a nil-nil draw at Oldham.

Charlton are up and running with a three-nil win over Shrewsbury at Valley Parade, seeing Russell Slade get his first win since taking charge with another very impressive three-nil win seeing Southend collect a first league win too.

They saw off Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Without a doubt the most impressive result of the midweek schedule, across the Football League, has to be Peterborough’s five-one win over Millwall, which wouldn’t have been expected by too many heading to Posh on Tuesday!
