Southend’s League 1 season continued with a defeat against Port Vale at Vale Park on Saturday.

Another defeat was suffered by Southend with bad luck again going against the Blues in a two-nil defeat at Port Vale.

Port Vale ‘keeper Alnwick along with the crossbar denied a Cox header from giving Southend the lead a few minutes before Forrester sent Vale into the half time break one-up.

Southend were condemned to a club record eighth consecutive defeat, with the post hit by the Blues early in the second half, when Streete scored from close range to seal the Port Vale win with 15-minutes to play.

A second successive win for Bolton (two-one) to start the season was secured with a win at AFC Wimbledon, who continue to await a first point this season with the same applying to Southend who were beaten at Port Vale (two-one).

Charlton (one-one) are now up and running with a draw at the Valley against Northampton, who remain unbeaten since the Cobblers returned to League 1.

MK Dons and Millwall would be many peoples bet to be there or thereabouts this season when it comes to promotion, they met on Saturday at the stadium:mk with this ending with the points shared in a two-all draw.

Graham Alexander’s return to former club Fleetwood with Scunthorpe ended in a two-two draw.
