Any aspiring footballer wants to make his professional debut don’t they?

Cauley Woodrow managed this with us a while ago, however the Southend loanee from Fulham was still looking for his maiden goal as a footballer.

When you’re a striker goals are something you clearly want to score, and you’re expect to score so that becomes the next thing you want to tick off that list.

Woodrow was able to do that for us at the weekend too when his first football league goal set us on our way to the 2-0 win at Exeter.

It’s a moment that he’ll never forget, even if he can’t remember much about the goal itself!

He told the official website: ‘My uncle called me after the game and said you’ll never forget that moment and that’s true.

‘Your first goal in the league is always a big milestone, just like my first senior goal against Dagenham & Redbridge was.

‘I don’t actually remember too much about the goal other than it was a great ball in from John White and I managed to get my boot on the end of it.

‘A few of the lads said it was an own goal but I knew I’d got the final touch, though I was still in a bit of shock as I celebrated because I also thought I might have been offside.

‘It was also nice to cap the goal with a win. The team played really well and we deserved the three points. We had to dig deep in the second half but we came through it.’

Things happen for a reason don’t they, or so I think!

It’s possible that had Barry Corr not been ill Woodrow wouldn’t have even started the game, he did and he scored so hopefully plenty more league goals will now follow.

Phil Brown recently said that he thought they would flow freely one he got his first, lets hope that they do….
