According to the Echo Southend are close to completing deals for several players.

Right back Jason Demetriou is in talks with the club as is ‘keeper Stuart Nelson as far as Echosport has understood with Jermaine McGlashan also someone Phil Brown hopes to secure.

Demetriou was a regular for Walsall last season (making 57 appearances) whereas Nelson (51-matches) was also a regular fixture in the Gillingham starting XI.

Both, along with former Gills winger Jermaine McGlashan could be on their way.

Southend boss Brown’s confirmed to the Echo he’s positive on our chances of sealing these deals.

‘We have a medical lined up for today and hope to be able to announce the signing very soon. It`s a full-back who played a lot of games for a team towards the top of League One last season and he would be a very good signing for us. Hopefully we can get the Jermaine McGlashan deal done soon but the goalkeeper may take a little bit longer because he`s away on holiday at the moment.’

Adding targets aren’t going to be discussed too openly.

‘I don`t want to discuss the targets in public but the goalkeeper`s club have also offered him a contract, so we do have other options lined up if he decides to stay with them.’

A new ‘keeper is a must with Ted Smith set to be the only option we have due to Daniel Bentley moving on with the experience Nelson playing over 400-matches in his career so far.
