Reports suggest that Steve Tilson will have contract talks with Ron Martin this week as the Shrimper’s chairman looks to tie Tilson and his assistant manager Paul Brush to three year deals.

Tilson has pledged not to let the talks distract him from his job and said ‘I’m leaving all of that to my agent. Talks are continuing but I want to concentrate on the football and don’t want anything to affect that, so I’m not getting too involved.’

He does however want a few more players, although he admits with the deadline for loans next Thursday, most clubs don’t want to risk losing what they have got as the hectic winter schedule gathers pace.

‘We’ve identified a few players we’d like to bring in but whether I can is another matter. It’s hard because if sides are letting out better than we have they must have a hell of a side.’ He has also decried the transfer system telling the official site: ‘Everyone was told that loans were only for emergencies at the start of the season. What that covers I don’t know as it appears to just be a normal loan that anyone can go and do which in itself is a total farce. Not being able to sign anyone until January is killing off some teams.’
