Southend kept yet another cleansheet at Roots Hall on Tuesday and best of all bested our one-goal return last time to beat Cheltenham two-nil best better still this win meant that we won at home in midweek for the first time in a staggering 41 months, which were played over 11 matches.

I wonder what the trolls that gave Daniel Bentley grief after the Shrewsbury draw made of this? I doubt very much they came back to say sorry, they don’t do they!

This win also means we’re just four points off the top of the League 2 table and just two from the third and final automatic promotion place.

Joe Pigott set us on our way to victory when he followed up Trevor Carson’s save, which had kept our Jake Cassidy’s header from a telling John White cross, to give us the lead on nine minutes.

The second was added ten minutes before the break when Pigott was on hand to head home a Ben Coker corner to leave us in complete control, with the post denying us a third on half time as another Coker corner was headed against the post by White.

There wasn’t much of a threat from us in the second half though but Michael Timlin marked his 150th appearance for us with a goal lines clearance to keep out a Matt Taylor header as we ended that long hoodoo at home and kept our promotion push very much on track.

Avoiding defeat was the minimum aim, are we starting to turn around our home form?
