An unbeaten run, with us chasing an eighth straight cleansheet at Roots Hall, was ended when Accrington Stanley stunned us to end our ten game unbeaten run with a two-one win on Saturday.

This isn’t a game that we should’ve lost and we’ll have to hope that these dropped points don’t end up costing us at the end of the season.

We should’ve taken the lead in the first half but Joe Pigott couldn’t keep his goalscoring run going when he hit the crossbar but Accrington also went close themselves with us thankful for Ryan Leonard being in the right place at the right time to head a volley from Luke Joyce off the line.

Accrington did make the breakthrough early in the second half when Piero Mingoia volleyed past our young goalkeeper Ted Smith, who was making his debut to fulfil the dream that he had hoped to, to leave the home crowd stunned.

That lead was added to when Terry Gornell went through to lob over Smith to make it two with under twenty minutes to play. We responded immediately from the kick off when David Worrall crossed into Barry Corr who headed in to give us hope.

We couldn’t get the equaliser though and didn’t really look like doing so either with a disappointing defeat suffered.
