A run of successive nil-nil draws was ended with Southend’s last game at Roots Hall, we’ll be looking for another win, one-nil or otherwise, against Cheltenham on Tuesday.

Kevan Hurst was passed fit to play against Shrewsbury on Saturday but Phil Brown didn’t believe he was fit enough after injury so he kept him out, he’ll be involved in the squad tonight. David Worrall is back from illness but Jack Payne should keep his place after his goal in the one-one draw on Saturday. Mads Ibenfeldt continues to be our only serious injury concern.

Cheltenham could give Eliot Richards a first start following his recent arrival, having come off the bench in defeat to our promotion rivals Burton Albion. He was one of no fewer than six players who made debuts in that game. Jake Gray could come up against his Crystal Palace teammate, our loanee Jerome Binnom-Williams, in the last game of his loan.

The points are what both sides need, it’s a game that we’ll be expected to win and if we continue our defensive solidarity at Roots Hall I’m sure we will, as long as we take our chances! Defeat isn’t really an option is it.
