I was a bit last doing my report for Burton Albion, so it seems no sooner had I done that one I’m onto this preview for our next match! Southend’s automatic promotion hopes aren’t over but the loss to Burton Albion on Tuesday certainly saw us sustain a blow. We’re back at Roots Hall on Saturday with Cambridge United the opposition.

As Phil Brown wasn’t happen with the performance and was “disappointed” by both David Worrall and Joe Pigott, who both went off, they could be among those changes he makes? Barry Corr might have missed a penalty but he came through Wednesday with a goal and no reaction to an injury concern so he, like Ben Coker should feature again.

Cambridge will have Greg Taylor back after injury but former Southend striker Matt Harrold isn’t ready to return. Gearoid Morrissey and Tom Elliott should be involved with Jordan Chiedozie and Jonathon Margetts possibilities to feature too but former Manchester United winger Luke Chadwick is injured along with Rory Gaffney.

Nothing short of all three points will make up for Wednesday’s defeat and retain hope, even if it’s limited, of still finishing in the top three in League 2.
