It’s a relatively simple equation for Southend now if we want automatic promotion. When we go to Morecambe we’ve got to match or better what Bury and Wycombe Wanderers do and we finish third. The simplest thing to do is to merely win, and keep our run going, when we head to the Globe Arena on Saturday and the rest is irrelevant.

Confidence was high going into this game but we’ll also now go to the Globe Arena knowing that Phil Brown’s won the Manager of the Month and Adam Barrett the Player of the Month awards for April, we’ll be keen that they’re not a poisoned chalice!

Morecambe’s long serving Stewart Drummond will play a part having announced his retirement earlier this week but injury could keep out Ryan Edwards with injuries almost certain to sideline Ryan Williams and Barry Roche.

A ninth successive clean sheet and eighth successive win is all we need, I say “all we need” but if we can manage this we’re sorted and with a near on fully fit squad to select from thanks to a successful appeal against Ben Coker’s sending off against Luton that helps. Jake Cassidy should be fit as will captain John White so it’s only Adam Thompson definitely out.

This is Southend we’re talking about, it’s the final game of the season too so there’s likely to be a few twists and turns but as long as it pans out in our favour in the end I don’t care and a wins what we’ll be going for, get that and it’s sorted. Simple really!
