Southend were in a position not too long ago that Bury are in now, pushing for automatic promotion. They’ll be favourites to move closer when we meet at Gigg Lane on Saturday. Eight points is too big a gap for us to make up on the top three in League 2 you feel so our top priority is making sure we consolidate our place in the play offs now.

Bury could give a debut to Bolton loanee Rob Holding, he’s at Bury like his teammate from Bolton Tom Eaves until the end of the season. Joe Riley is suspended but Daniel Nardiello is back from injury and Danny Rose isn’t far off it.

Luke Prosser fortunately doesn’t appear to be as seriously injured as first feared when he went off in the nil nil draw with Cambridge United last Saturday but he’ll not play in this one, for starters and Kevan Hurst is also out because of injury. Adam Barrett’s not played too much since returning but he could come back in. Cian Bolger and Jerome Binnom-Williams, shifting across, are other options. Myles Weston is away with Antigua. Nottingham Forest winger Stephen McLaughlin should make his debut after signing on loan.

We’ve got a six point cushion on the chasing pack at the moment, another win or two should make the play offs secured. If we can string together a run of wins then the top three becomes possible again but a wins a necessity if we’ll have a chance at all.
