I’m just about recovered from the bloating of Christmas, I’m all turkey’d out and had my share of mince pies in fact several people’s share as we start to return to normality before the New Year festivities takeover. We’re soon back in action after that Boxing Day win over Wimbledon as Southend travel again with Accrington faced on Sunday.

Former Premier League striker Webber could start for Accrington after overcoming illness to play the closing minutes of the Boxing Day game. Atkinson is back after a hamstring setback, and was a sub for the game with York but could also start.

Prosser continues to be a doubt for Southend due to his concussion, Phillips deputised for him against Wimbledon and a last gasp block ensured we won that game one-nil so he probably deserves to keep his place. Prosser is a lynchpin though. Bennett is still a long way from a playing return.

Accrington looked dead set for relegation early on in the season but have turned this around to become one of the inform sides in this division so you can’t take anything for granted. We’ve had several draws recently but if that’s what it’s going to be at the Crown Ground on Sunday that might not be a bad result, but if we’re serious about challenging for promotion this season it’s a game that we could do with winning really.
