Gary Deegan and Crystal Palace loanee Jerome Binnom-Williams are both coming towards the end of their current arrangements with Southend but Phil Brown has made it clear he wants to keep both.

Deegan’s latest short-term deal expires next week with Binnom-Williams’ loan spell from Crystal Palace set to expire at the end of the month but Brown’s told the Echo that he wants ‘both to stay’ and as such ‘will be having the necessary talks to try and make that happen’

He said: ‘I thought Deegs did a great job against Plymouth. He had been out of the team for while and Michael Timlin was disappointed to be left out at the weekend but I thought we would need that extra bite in midfield and it was there in abundance.

‘It’s also more simple to keep Gary here because he’s out player it’s just a case of trying to extend the deal now.

‘I thought he showed the passion to wear the shirt on Saturday and long may that continue.’

The 19-year-old might be a little more difficult to keep though with Brown wary that the Premier League’s clubs new manager Alan Pardew might be keen to bring the defender back to ‘have a look’ at him, but hopes that an extension until the end of the season, or even a permanent deal, can be agreed….
