Southend Book Wembley Trip

Southend United tonight booked their place at Wembley in the League Two Play Off final following victory over Stevenage in the semi stage.

Having drawn one all at The Lamex Stadium in the first leg, it all rested on a Roots Hall encounter earlier tonight and Southend were clearly the better team and had the better chances – but credit must be given to Stevenage for a very spirited display.

Having left the pitch and the game (much to his annoyance) needing 15 stitches to his head in the first leg, Michael Timlin had a monumental performance on the evening, and played a massive role in our three one victory that put us through to Wembley after extra time.

We now face Wycombe Wanderers in the national stadium centre piece to decide promotion for 2014-15 and everyone will be hoping we can go and achieve that aim this year.

Wycombe won two one this evening, taking the result five three on aggregate.

Our own aggregate score was four two.
