The pre-season preparations that Southend have been going through are now over, with the fixtures wrapped up with a win over a West Ham XI on Monday night.

West Ham’s XI was very much a young one, more of a development one, but the game at Roots Hall would have proved another worthy run out for all concerned with positives taken from it.

The winning goal, a fine Barry Corr freekick, came just minutes before the break with that goal enough to earn the Shrimpers a 1-0 win.

Now its down to the real business with the League Two season kicking off this weekend.
