The Johnstone’s Paint Trophy proves a distraction for both Southend and AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday; both will be hoping it’s a welcome one at Roots Hall!

Having drawn and won the last couple of games, getting the season up and running, Southend aren’t expected to make too many changes to the starting XI. One that will come in is summer signing Paul Smith, the keeper will make his debut.

Kevan Hurst (concussion) requires a late fitness test. Other doubts are Dave Martin (ankle) and Freddy Eastwood (calf).

Dale Bennett (knee) is expected to be fit for Wimbledon having picked up a knock on his debut at the weekend. Fellow loan arrival George Francomb will also play again.

Mat Mitchel-King (compassionate leave) is still out along with Curtis Osano (ankle) and Callum McNaughton (cruciate) with Curtis Haynes-Brown (concussion) expected to miss out again. Rashid Yussuff and Jason Prior will also sit out the game for The Dons.
