Good news for Southend is tinged with a little disappointment at the same time!

Whenever anyone is handed an international call up, at any level, this is something that is rejoiced.

Adam Thompson would be thrilled to be called up by Northern Ireland at U21 level, however this call up means that we’ll have to do without him for a couple of games at a time when we could have done with him…

Thompson was part of the side that recorded an impressive win at the Kassam Stadium against Oxford at the weekend but Phil Brown will now have to find a new partner for Luke Prosser.

Northern Ireland have games on Friday and next Tuesday so this will mean that he’ll be ruled out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy meeting with Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday and (arguably more importantly in many peoples eyes) the next league two meeting when the Shrimpers face Burton on Saturday.

We’ll miss him, that’s for sure, but it’s great news that he’s got him international call and we have to be happy for him with the door now open for someone else to come in and stake a claim!
