Tyrone Barnett ended last season on loan with Southend from Shrewsbury.

With Phil Brown admitting interest in former Rangers forward Nicky Clark with Birmingham’s Lee Novak also linked.

All of this doesn’t look as though the 30-year-old will now be returning to Roots Hall with the Shropshire Star quoting Phil Brown as confirming his interest in Clark, released by Scottish giants Rangers at the end of his contract, as saying.

‘We`re interested in signing Nicky and also another striker I travelled up to Newcastle to hold talks with.’

Brown didn’t mention Novak by name but the common thoughts are the former Chesterfield loanee (who impressed at the Proact Stadium during his time with the Spireites last season) is the one he was referring too when adding.

‘There`s a lot of interest in him but I spoke with him for an hour-and-a-half and we`re probably at second or third base in terms of finances now. The next base is for him to decide if he wants to move down from the north, but I`m hoping he`ll be coming to have a look at the area when he`s back from holiday.’

Barnett played in 20-matches during his four-months at Southend scoring five-goals but with the 30-year-old having a year left on his contract and Shrewsbury looking for a fee in the region of £100,000 the Blues wouldn’t previously pay making this deal unlikely.

That and the fact Brown’s got at least two other striking options on the go.
