Southend United are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by goalkeeper Mark Oxley in the two nil victory over Oldham Athletic at the weekend at Roots Hall was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Oxley was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘The first of two League One players to make the selection from a heavily reduced schedule, Oxley gets the nod after performing heroics in Southend`s win over Oldham Athletic. A goal either side of the break sealed a 2-0 win, but it was the goalkeeper`s phenomenal penalty save that preserved the lead prior to Josh Wright`s second-half strike.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Oxley for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the win.

Full Team:

Mark Oxley (Southend United), Ben Davies (Preston North End), Sean Morrison (Cardiff City), Mark Little (Bolton Wanderers), Sergi Canos (Brentford), George Thorne (Derby County), Callum Connolly (Ipswich Town), Mo Barrow (Reading), Lee Gregory (Millwall), Gary Hooper (Sheffield Wednesday), Ellis Harrison (Bristol Rovers).

Manager – Lee Johnson (Bristol City).
