Southend United are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by goalkeeper Mark Oxley in the two one victory over Blackpool at the weekend at Roots Hall was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Oxley was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘Southend United picked up maximum points against Blackpool and Oxley was the hero as they held on to a 2-1 win. The visitors were presented with the perfect opportunity to earn themselves a draw when awarded a stoppage-time penalty, but the Shrimpers` stopper was equal to Jimmy Ryan`s effort.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Oxley for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the win.

Full Team:

Mark Oxley (Southend United), Ethan Ebanks-Landell (MK Dons), Matt Preston (Swindon Town), Nathaniel Knight-Percival (Bradford City), Kamil Grosicki (Hull City), Tariqe Fosu (Charlton Athletic), Jack Payne (Oxford United), James Maddison (Norwich City), Ivan Cavaleiro (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Danny Rose (Mansfield Town), Jayden Stockley (Exeter City).

Manager – Leonid Slutsky (Hull City).
