Southend’s season has fizzled out disappointingly, however the club will want to end on a high this weekend.

One player in particular, who has been ever present this season, that has something to achieve is Sean Clohessy. Should he, as he’s likely too, play at the weekend it will mark a club record 59th appearance of the season!

In fact since his arrival Clohessy has missed just one game, against Bradford last season due to suspension following a sending off.

This impending record, as he told the official website, isn’t something he was aware of. He said: ‘I wasn’t aware that it would become a record if I was to play on Saturday but it’s always a nice achievement to hold a record.

‘It’s been a long season but to be honest with you I still feel fresh and think I could carry on and play more games this season.

‘Last season I only missed one game after the sending off against Bradford and I was a little bit disappointed not to make it to 100 consecutive games – I think I was on 96.

‘I’m just happy to have played this number of games this season and hopefully I will be involved on Saturday to mean I`ve played in every league and cup game this season.’

Ending on a high, despite having nothing to play for, is something that Clohessy also admits he, and everyone else, is keen to do.

Having been named The Shrimpers Trust Player of the Year he’s also set his sights on becoming the official Player of the Season.
