Now That Was A Reaction – Brown

Manager Phil Brown couldn’t have been more delighted after watching Southend show tremendous character to fightback from two goals down in the game against Scunthorpe United on Tuesday night.

Southend found ourselves on the wrong end of a two goal margin at the half time break but second half especially we really did create some fantastic chances on goal, and just after the hour mark we made two of them count perfectly thanks to the John’s – Egan and White – to take a very welcome point on the night.

Speaking to the Official Site whilst the gaffer was rightly less than pleased with the first half showing, he couldn’t have been more proud of the display we put in during the second 45 minutes.

‘It was great character and belief that they showed to get back into the game, but also plenty of quality. It was a fantastic game of football, real end to end stuff. They dominated the first and we did the same in the second.’

Brown goes on to say that with our form issues of late, and issues in front of both goals, to come back the way we did really does show the character and the heart of the players and it’s nothing he hasn’t expected from them because he knew they were capable, he just hopes the boost coming back in this manner is the catalyst for a change around in our luck.

The manager also goes on to credit the impact the subs had, making particular reference to Freddy Eastwood, because it really was a case for him of everybody giving their all for the shirt again and the lift it had given everyone in the dressing room at the end of the match was a joy for him to see following recent frustrations.

The gaffer also joked that he hadn’t brought John Egan to the club to score goals, but if he wants to carry on hitting balls like that he’s more than welcome to!

Onto Bury now this weekend and then hopefully a return to all three points.
