Following such an impressive season, in an ultimately disappointing one for Southend, Sean Clohessy could quite easily move on. However, The Shrimpers’ Player of the Year, insists that he’s not got a desperate desire to leave Roots Hall despite being out of contract.

Clohessy does, understandably, want to play at a higher level and if that opportunity comes along he admits he’d have to have a look at the offer on the table but would be more than happy to stay at Southend.

He said: ‘I’m never going to come out and say I want to leave here because I’m very grateful for the opportunity Southend gave me to play league football again.

‘It’s up to the club and the chairman to produce a contract for me though because talks have been ongoing for a while now.

‘I’m obviously happy here, but like any other footballer I do want to play at the highest level I possibly can.’

Following such a great season from the 26-year-old it would be very surprising if other clubs weren’t looking at the defender though!
