Legend Kevin Maher has now returned to the club and will lend his talents to coaching our youngsters in the Academy.

Maher was at the club for a decade between 1998 and 2008 and is now spending a few nights a week coaching with Ricky Duncan. The midfielder is still playing part time but is looking to earn his coaching badges now so it’s an arrangement that suits all parties and it’s good to have him back anyway because of his status within the club.

Speaking to the Official Site the 37 year old said.

‘It’s been a while, but I stayed in touch with Ricky and this was a great opportunity for me. I’m working to get my coaching badges so it’s a great chance to help out and try and develop some youngsters. I’ve got a great affiliation with Southend, it’s a club that’s very close to my heart, so to help in any way is great.’

During his time with us he played in well over 400 games, scoring 26 goals.
