The final signing Southend signing on Monday was another striker, and another 19 year old, with Isaac Layne’s signing officially confirmed.

Reports of a deal being agreed with Billericay Town dated back as far as last week but today his signing for an undisclosed fee on a one year contract, another with the option of a second, was confirmed.

Brown feels that we’ve ‘found a little gem’ this pre season with it again proving that you can also unearth someone against the sides that you play from the Non League scene, whereas Layne himself has said in his interview with the official website that he couldn’t refuse this chance and is now looking to make an impression.

‘When the opportunity came to join Southend I couldn’t turn it down and I’m really excited for what is to come.

‘All I want to do is show everyone what I’m about and make a big impression on the manager, fans and my teammates.’

Layne is a really interesting and intriguing signing that could be something of a coup for us.
