Teenage striker James Lawson has seen his efforts this season rewarded with his first professional contract.

18 year old Lawson was originally drafted in to cover because Wayne Gray was injured and fellow striker Freddy Eastwood was suspended. However, with two goals in four starts, Lawson is now keeping the senior strikers at bay.

The contract ties him to the Shrimpers until the summer of 2007.

His manager Steve Tilson said: ‘James must keep his feet on the ground, but if he can do that he will go on to have a really good career.’
