Southend’s League 1 season gets underway against Fleetwood at the Highbury Stadium on Saturday to kick-off the 2015/16 season; which will of course see expectations high under Phil Brown as we look to build on our promotion achievements last season in the dramatic play-off win over Wycombe.

Fleetwood are short of cover for no.1 Chris Maxwell. Brendan Moore (ankle) is injured but former Morecambe ‘keeper Andreas Arestidou has trained with the Cod Army recently and should solve that crisis.

Brown leads us at this level for the first time and he’ll have summer signings David Mooney, Anthony Wordsworth and Noel Hunt to call upon following arrivals to boost the squad that, in the main, has remained intact following our play-off success in May.

The importance of ‘getting your first three points on board as quickly as we can’ wasn’t lost on the Blues boss who is looking to do this, and ideally at Highbury! He also feels we ‘can achieve something at this level,’ and why shouldn’t we!

The full fixtures this weekend are:-

Burton v Scunthorpe
Chesterfield v Barnsley
Colchester v Blackpool
Coventry v Wigan
Crewe v Port Vale
Doncaster v Bury
Fleetwood v Southend
Gillingham v Sheff Utd
Rochdale v Peterborough
Shrewsbury v Millwall
Swindon v Bradford
Walsall v Oldham

It goes without saying the Shrimpers will ‘be hopeful’ of a positive result but will we get this?

Whatever the line up the boss goes with expectancy will be high but ahead of the game we’re looking for your views on what way you think it will go, which obviously requires you to vote in the latest poll one of three ways….

Southend win
Fleetwood win

Not only do we want you to cast your vote, which you do to your right, we’re also looking for your thoughts and views too so do share some of those with your comments below.
