Having broken through into the Southend first team at the end of the season Mitchell Pinnock can’t wait for next season to come around.

A professional contract was offered to the winger by Phil Brown with him now targeting a regular spot in the side next season.

It’s hoped, as he told the official website, hard work during the off-season and pre-season can see the youngster kick on next season.

Pinnock said: ‘It was just a fantastic experience to get into the first-team and be involved in the squad towards the end of the season. To come on twice was really exciting, especially against Morecambe where I had 25 minutes to impress. You never forget your debut and it was a special moment for me.

‘The manager has shown faith in the youth setup here at the club and he’s been to which a lot of the youth games since coming here.

‘I will work hard during the close season and pre-season and hopefully I can impress enough to earn a regular place in the starting line-up.

‘I’m aiming to be the number 11 for Southend, that’s what I’m working towards, and with the backing of the manager I will do my best to get that.’

The youngster shows a great attitude; if his application (as he says it will) matches this then next season should be an exciting one for both Pinnock and The Shrimpers.
