Jason Demetriou and Jermaine McGlashan have both been giving their thoughts following their moves this summer to Southend and Roots Hall.

Beginning with Demetriou, the right back passed a medical earlier today so was officially announced, even though it was well covered in speculation, and he signs a two year deal effective from July 1 when his Walsall deal expires.

Last season he made 53 appearances for the club as the battled the automatic spots before having to settle for a Play Off run.

Speaking to the Official Site with his deal now confirmed, he explained.

‘When the offer came about it perked my ears up. I can see the potential of the club and it`s going places, the manager has a good vision for the team, so it in the end there was a lot of boxes ticked for me. I`m really looking forward to getting started now, we`ve got a good squad here and I think we`ll be up there this season. It`s a great feeling to be involved in the play-offs, but I`m hoping this season with a new club we can go one better and we can get automatic promotion.’

With midfielder McGlashan penning a two year deal, but with the option of a third year, he comes in from Gillingham and having passed his medical today as well, his deal also comes into being on July 1.

He has a double quick reunion with his former employers on the opening day of the League One season as well as the first round of the League Cup.

‘I spoke to a few clubs once the season ended and once I met Phil Brown he sold the club to me and the direction of where they are going. I`ve played against Southend a few times, I know one or two players here and there`s some quality players in the squad so my mind was pretty much made up after I met with the club. I went away and had a think about it and came back feeling no different so I`m very excited for the season ahead. People that know me know that I`ve got a lot of pace and I like to get at the full back and I really want to add goals and assists to this team. The way the manager wants to play suits me down to the ground and now I just can`t wait to get started!’
