Southend United are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Jason Demetriou in the two nil victory over Oxford United in midweek at the Kassam Stadium was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Demetriou was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘Southend brought Oxford United’s winning run to a halt, with Demetriou impressing in defence and attack. The hosts were stifled by the Shrimpers, and the full-back’s cross for Marc-Antoine Fortune put them on their way to victory.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Demetriou for his recognition, but the most important thing about the game was of course the points.

Full Team:

Luke Daniels (Scunthorpe United), Enda Stevens (Portsmouth), Peter Clarke (Oldham Athletic), Vincent Sasso (Sheffield Wednesday), Jake Buxton (Wigan Athletic), Jason Demetriou (Southend United), Kadeem Harris (Cardiff City), Jimmy Smith (Crawley Town), Gavin Massey (Leyton Orient), Tom Bradshaw (Barnsley), Billy Kee (Accrington Stanley).

Manager – David Artell (Crewe Alexandra).
