Southend have had defensive issues this season, not always with the amount of goals we concede mind but more with keeping players fit.

We’ve seen several players come in on loan only to have their loans cut short due to injury, more often than not with them injured when making their debuts and that can be doubly disappointing if they’ve been impressive when making this as most usually have.

Last week we had a look at Liverpool’s Jakub Sokolik.

He played for us in a behind closed door friendly with Colchester and also trained with the team at Boots & Laces for a couple of days with Phil Brown telling the Echo in an interview today that he’s ‘certainly been impressed by him’.

Brown’s revealed that he hopes to have more positive discussions with the coaches at Liverpool as he looks to bring in the 20 year old Czech Republic central defender to Roots Hall, with him becoming the latest loan signing we’ve made this season.

Now we need to ‘watch this space’ I suppose.
