Southend United are represented in the latest Football League team of the week that has been selected following the clash with Wigan Athletic.

The performance by Simon Cox in the three one victory over Wigan Athletic at the weekend at Roots Hall was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the Football League pyramid.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Cox was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the FL blurb read.

‘It’s rare we’ll include a striker without a goal in our selection, but Cox is the second man in the XI to provide three assists, helping the Shrimpers to a third straight win under Chris Powell.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Cox for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the win.

Full Team:

Luke McGee (Portsmouth), Charlie Clough (Barnet), Michael Hector (Hull City), Matt Preston (Swindon Town), Adama Traore (Middlesbrough), Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), John-Hoe O’Toole (Northampton Town), Jordan Clark (Accrington Stanley), Mohamed Eisa (Cheltenham Town), Billy Sharp (Sheffield United), Simon Cox (Southend United).

Manager – Derek Adams (Plymouth Argyle).
