Reacted to the release of the fixture list on Wednesday, manager Phil Brown has admitted we face a very tough opening month – especially with the travelling – but he feels that we’ll have a very clear picture of where we stand as we head into September.

Speaking to the Official Site with us now knowing we open the season against Accrington Stanley and open our home season against Stevenage the week after, the gaffer explained.

‘It’s a very exciting start to the season, regardless of the distance, because it shows the quality there is in this division. I do get a real buzz when you see the fixtures for the first time, and it was exactly the same when I saw them this morning. Carlisle and Stevenage have come down, so will provide us with very good tests, while AFC Wimbledon have bolstered their squad this summer. Accrington will be looking to make a good start in front of their fans, whilst Plymouth were a top side last season.’

Brown goes on to say that having started last season so well, he knows what that boost did to set us up for the battle for the play offs despite our hiccup period where we couldn’t buy a win, and he’s hopeful that we can begin this season in the same vain and give ourselves a good confidence shot so we can build on what we achieved last term.

‘Hopefully we can do exactly the same this time around, because I think the first month will give us a clear idea of how our season will go.’

As for the travelling involved early on in the season, Brown says he’s not really bothered by that because ultimately we have to make those trips at some point, so we might as well do it when the weather should be decent, and pitches are in their best shape, and his only focus will be on enjoying the return journey home having picked up a good positive result, with a good showing, and hopefully all three points on as many occasions as we can.
