With our loanees returning following confirmation of our successful Play Off battle against Wycombe Wanderers, manager Phil Brown has confirmed that he wants to sign Stephen McLaughlin on a permanent basis from Nottingham Forest.

In quotes carried by the Echo our gaffer admitted he’d been very impressed with the loanee who made nine appearances, scoring twice against Newport County and in the semi final against Stevenage.

He said of the 24 year old Irishman.

‘I would definitely like to try and secure Stephen for next season. He has a great left foot and I thought he played a big part for us following his arrival from Nottingham Forest. I will definitely be talking to them about Stephen and hopefully we can sort something out.’

With him ending the season on loan with us following an earlier spell on loan with Notts County, whilst he is still to talk with their new manager Dougie Freedman it is expected that he will be allowed to leave over the summer – potentially on a free transfer in return for a sell on clause.
