He only has one Southend start and an appearance as a sub under his belt but Phil Brown has already made it clear that he’s hopeful of keeping Jamar Loza for longer.

The Norwich loanee made a real impact in the win over Oxford, having a hand in all three goals including scoring one of them with Brown telling the Echo that he’s already hoping to keep the teenager until the end of the season.

It’s also thought that he can bring the best out of Lee Barnard too, with his goal also helping with the Southampton loanees own confidence.

‘Jamar has that quality and speed we’ve been lacking and we’ll certainly be trying to keep him here until the end of the season.

‘He’s bright, lively and has his eyes wide open because he wants to learn. He just wants that platform to be able to perform and show what he can do and we can give him that here.

‘I think having him up there also helps Lee Barnard and the shackles have come off him now after he scored a penalty which I was delighted about.’

Not for th first time, and also probably not for the last the work of chief scout Bob Shaw has been highly prised too.

Shaw was the man that recommended Loza, along with several others, to Brown with very few actually failing to see us reap the benefits of the spells they’ll have, or have had, at Roots Hall.
